If you enjoy markets, then it’s a must to visit the Mapusa Friday Market. It’s a colourful event with all sorts of goods being sold including spices, cashew nuts, fabric, jewellery, stainless steel goods and also a wide variety of junk! This market is on everyday but the Friday market is almost double the size with traders coming from all over with all sorts of fascinating goods from colourful spices to interesting vegetables. If you get peckish, be sure to pop into a ‘Bhaji House’ to sample some of the finest Indian style fast food! It’s easy to get to Mapusa, jump in a taxi or to complete the authentic day out, travel via the local bus for as little as 5 pence and then get a ‘rickshaw’ home!

Anjuna Flea Market on Wednesdays is also not to be missed. It attracts traders from all over the Indian continent to sell jewels and jewellery, silverware, a fantastic array of crafts, clothing, bedspreads, bags, stones and so the list goes on! If you’re prepared to barter, you can get some fantastic bargains here! Even if shopping is not your thing, there’s plenty to keep you occupied: from live music which plays all day to the many little café’s to stop and relax in, including a German bakery! You could get your hair cut or even get a tattoo – henna or permanent are both available!
